India Proves their dominance in Asia Cup
In the opening match of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup tournament, the Indian team thrash Malaysia by a big margin of 142 runs.
After winning the toss in the opening game of Asia Cup, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur elected to bat first and scored 169 for 3 wickets in 20 overs. India looses early wickets of Mandhana and Vastrakar at the score of 8 and 35 respectively. Then the most senior batsman of the squad Mithali Raj scored unbeaten 97 off 69 balls. Mithali partnershiped with Kaur and scored 86 runs off 53 balls and ending the innings with Deepti who scored 18 runs and reached the total of 169. Mithali just showed her vast experience by helping her team to put a decent score on a board.
In response, the Malaysian squad scattered like a deck of cards. The entire team just manages to make 27 in 13.4 overs. Six Malaysian players were bowled out for duck and none could manage to make their score upto double digit. Sasha Azmi was the top scorer managing to make 9 off 10 balls.
Malaysia lost their half side within 5 overs only managing to make 12 at the loss of 5 wickets. Skipper Winifred Duraisingam scored 5 from 21 balls. Pooja Vastrakar got 3 wickets and Arjuna Patil and Poonam Yadav got 2 wickets each.
As a result Mithali misses out her century while she was 8 runs short in the last 2 overs and couldn’t find out some runs to achieve it. As India won their first match in the glorious Asia Cup and climbed to the top of the table.
